A Beautiful Day Watercolor Butterfly Birthday Card

Today’s card is featuring another favorite stamp set of mine; A Beautiful Day. This stamp set features a large butterfly, a large flower, and some great sentiments. The openness of the Beautiful Day butterfly just screams to be colored, and this time I did it with watercolor.

Admittedly, this card is a little tricky, but with the help of the stamparatus, it can easily be done.

The Details

I started the process by positioning the butterfly on the stamparatus where I wanted it to appear on my watercolor cardstock. Once I was happy with the placement, I very lightly stamped the butterfly image with Memento Tuxedo Black. I then switched plates on my stamparatus and lined up the spray pattern stamp from the Beauty Abounds stamp set to make sure that it would stamp inside the lines of the butterfly (well, as close as I could get anyway).

Using Daffodil Delight ink, I inked up the spray pattern stamp then spritzed it with some water using the Stampin’ Spritzer before stamping. I repeated this process, lining the stamp up in different positions, using Mango Melody and Poppy Parade ink. Lastly, I added a few splotches of Mango Melody ink in a random pattern around the butterfly using the same water-spritzed process.

Once the ink was dry, I return my focus to the plate with the butterfly on it. I inked the butterfly up with Versamark and heat embossed the butterfly with Shimmer Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. (Sadly, this item has just retired and is no longer available)

The butterfly was then mounted on a layer of Mango Melody and Basic Black cardstock and adhered to a Whisper White thick card base.

I finish off the card by adding an embossed sentiment, a bow, and some Rhinestone Basic Jewels to give it some bling.
