It’s a Freezin’ Fun bunny slope kind of day here at The Stamping Ninja. This adorable, whimsical Christmas card is done in watercolor and is the 3rd card in the 12 Weeks of Christmas series.
How cute is this card? The Freezin’ Fun stamp set is full of cute little characters. It contains 16 rubber cling stamps and 4 of them are animals. The coordinating dies for this set, Freezin’ Friends, not only cut out those cute animals, it even includes a die to make the snow slopes. The best part is, when you purchase them together you save 10%.
This cute set also pairs well with watercolor! The Water Painters and Watercolor Pencils (in colors listed below) give this card a nice soft feel.
The colors are best applied with a soft hand. You can always make it darker if you need to, but you will want to start off with it light. To obtain the green color of the trees, color with Old Olive then add a small amount of Garden Green on top. When you apply the water, the two colors will blend nicely.
To make this card
- Begin with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Smoky Slate card stock, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to form your card base.
- Adhere a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Seaside Spray to the card base and adhere a 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of Whisper White card stock on top of it.
- Cut a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Feels Like Frost designer series paper and adhere to the card.
- Using your Cut & Emboss machine, make your snow slopes by laying the slope die diagonally across a 3 1/4″ by 3 7/8″ piece of Shimmery White card stock. (Be sure to lay the die across the side measuring 3 1/4″). When cut, the larger piece will be the back slope and the smaller piece will layer on top and act as the front slope.
- Using a stamparatus, stamp the dotted swooshes on the snow slope in Smoky Slate ink. (I placed the slopes on the stamparatus as they will appear on the card, placed my stamp where I wanted it, then removed the smaller slope and stamped on the larger one. I then placed the smaller slope back on the stamparatus (in the same spot) and stamped on it. This method made the stamp line up perfectly when the two slopes were put back together).
- Adhere the slopes together and attach to the card lining up the bottom with the designer series paper using Stampin’ SEAL.
- Stamp the bunny image, one large tree, and two small trees on a piece of Shimmery White card stock using Saddle Brown Stazon ink.
- Using a light hand, color the trees with an Old Olive watercolor pencil and make a few marks on top with the Garden Green watercolor pencil. Blend the two colors together using a Water Painter.
- Color the bunny, using a light hand, with the following watercolor pencils; Balmy Blue, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Melon Mambo, and Whisper White. Use the Water Painter to get rid of the pencil lines and soften the color.
- Crop your images with the Freezin’ Friends dies using your Cut & Emboss machine and adhere the small tree (the one in back) with Stampin’ Seal and the rest of the images using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Cut a 5/8″ x 2 1/4″ piece of Shimmery White card stock and stamp the sentiment using Smoky Slate ink. (The top stamp is from Freezin’ Fun and the bottom is half a stamp from the stamp set A Wish for Everything).
- Punch the left side of the sentiment, one side of a 3/4″ x 2 5/16″ piece of Seaside Spray card stock, and one side of a 7/8″ x 2 3/8″ piece of Smoky Slate card stock with the Banner Pick a Punch. Layer and adhere the pieces together and attach to the card, lining up the right edge with the Whisper White layer.
- Attach four Adhesive-Backed Snowflakes as shown.
I would love to hear from you. Please let me know what you think of the Freezin’ Fun Bunny Slope card.
