This month it’s Fancy Folds for the Stampers Showcase Blog Hop! It’s one of our favorite hops and we can’t wait to show you what we have created.

This fancy fold is called a side step card. It features the stamp set Natures Beauty along with the Majestic Mountain dies.

These two products together make a great masculine card. The side step technique helps give it a lot of depth.

To make the card

  • Begin with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to form your card base.
  • Open the card base and place it into your trimmer lengthwise at the 3″ mark. Carefully cut from the 2 1/4″ mark to the 7 1/4″ mark.

  • Rotate the card 90 degrees to the right and score from the top to the cut at the following increments: 1 1/4″, 2 1/4″, 3 1/4″, 4 1/4″ (already scored), and 6 1/4″.

  • Carefully fold at the score lines. Your card base should look like the photo below.

  • Cut four pieces of Beauty of the Earth designer series paper (DSP): one 2 1/4″ x 4″ , one 1″ x 2 3/4″ , one 7/8″ x 2 3/4″, and one 1 3/4″ x 2 3/4″.
  • Adhere the DSP to the card with the larger piece on the right, the 1″ piece in front, the 7/8″ piece in the middle, and the 2 1/4″ piece in the back using Stampin’ SEAL.

Time to stamp

  • Stamp a deer and a fox on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Tuxedo Memento black ink.
  • Color the deer and the fox with the following Stampin’ Blends: Bronze, Cinnamon Cider, Crumb Cake, Ivory, Petal Pink, Smoky Slate, and Soft Suede.
  • Crop the fox out with a label from the Tasteful Labels dies using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine, being sure to position him to the very right side.
  • Stamp your sentiment on the label, next to the fox, using Mossy Meadow ink.
  • Using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine again, crop the same label (from Tasteful Labels) in Soft Suede.
  • Cut the label in two with your Paper Snips. Adhere to the back of the fox, leaving a border around the top and bottom edges.
  • Fussy cut the deer. (fussy cut means to cut out with your Paper Snips)
  • Crop seven trees (three in Granny Apple Green and four in Mossy Meadow) with the Majestic Mountain dies using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine.
  • Trim about 1″ from the bottom of two Granny Apple Green trees with your Paper Snips.

  • Using your Silicone Craft Sheet and some Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the five trees and the deer on the left side as shown in the picture below. Do this by laying the pieces upside down on your Silicone Craft Sheet. Add some glue to the sheet (up in the corner and out of the way). Then, dab a sponge into the glue, and lightly tap some glue on to the pieces. (Hint- this will ensure that your small pieces have glue on them, and you will not have to worry about globs of glue oozing out from your layers.) Once the glue is dry on your sheet, simply rub it off with your hand. (hint- the last Mossy Meadow tree in the back is glued to the back of the card instead of the front like the other four trees.)
  • Trim a portion off the last two remaining trees with your Paper Snips. Adhere them to the back of the fox using the same Silicone Craft Sheet technique.

  • Adhere the fox and the trees to the right side of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  • Cut two 6″ pieces of twine from the Baker’s Twine Essential Pack, layer them together, and tie a bow.
  • Attach the bow to the card using a Glue Dot.
