Happy Birthday with Mountain Air

The Happy Birthday with Mountain Air card was for my husbands birthday last week. I just love how it turned out! It’s masculine, and since the mountains are his happy place, I found it to be quite fitting.

Happy Birthday with Mountain Air

I really love the serene mountain scene and the warm colors really bring it together.

To make the card

  • Begin with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Early Espresso card stock, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to form your card base.
  • Make 3 masks: one of the mountains and of the lower tree line from the stamp set Mountain Air and one sun from the stamp set Waterfront. (To make a mask, stamp the image on a post it note, being sure that a portion of the image is stamped where the sticky part is underneath, and cut out with your Paper Snips).
  • Cut a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White card stock, center the largest heart die from the Be Mine Stitched dies on it, and trace the inside line with a pencil. (This is to help ensure your scene will fit perfectly within the heart frame).
  • Stamp the lower tree line image on to the Basic White piece using Mossy Meadow ink.

  • Lay the lower tree line mask over the image and stamp the mountains just above the tree line (overlapping it slightly) using Tuxedo Memento black ink.

  • Place the mountain mask over the stamped image and stamp the sun using Daffodil Delight ink.

  • Leaving all three masks in place, color the sky with your blending brushes using the following colors: Balmy Blue, Daffodil Delight, and Pumpkin Pie.

  • Remove the mask, color the areas that were missed (because of the masks) using your Blender Pens with the corresponding ink and color the mountains and grassy area using the following Stampin’ Blends: Crumb Cake dark, Ivory, and Old Olive light.
  • Adhere the Basic White piece to the card base using Stampin’ SEAL.

Time for the top layer

  • Crop a large heart out of a 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of In Good Taste designer series paper (DSP) using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine. You will have a large scalloped-heart cutout and a thin scalloped and straight-edged heart. Attach the thin straight heart cut out to the larger scalloped heart by flipping the DSP over and applying scotch tape.
  • Using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine again, crop out three trees in Mossy Meadow card stock using the Majestic Mountain dies.
  • Adhere the trees to the DSP using Multipurpose Liquid Glue and attach to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Stamp the sentiment on a piece of Basic White card stock using Early Espresso ink and punch out with the Double Oval punch.
  • Punch out a scalloped oval in Early Espresso card stock using the Double Oval punch, adhere the sentiment to it, and attach to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  3. WOW!
…and that is coming from a “Beach Person” not a “Mountain Person”.
    Really fantastic work!
    {For whatever reason, this will only post in All Caps…not really shouting}
