Happy Hibiscus in Plaid for Stampin’ Fancy Friday

Happy Friday! Today I have a Happy Hibiscus card, made with a plaid background, to share with you.

This card was made for our December Stampin’ Fancy Friday challenge, where the theme was plaid.

Since Christmas is now over, which I hope you had a very Merry one, it’s time to look forward to some warmer weather. And to me, nothing says that it’s warming up, like flowers.

These bright hibiscus flowers are really easy to create, and they have a ton of dimension! They are made with the Happy Hibiscus stamp bundle, which includes a 3D hybrid embossing folder.

To make the card

  • Begin with a 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” piece of Petal Pink cardstock, score and fold at 4 1/4” to form your card base.
  • Adhere a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” piece of A Little Latte DSP to the card base. Then, adhere a 1 1/4” x 4 1/4” piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock on top, 1/2” from the top and 1 3/8” from the left.
  • Sandwich a 2 1/4” x 4” piece of Basic White cardstock in the Forever Plaid embossing folder and run through your cut & emboss machine. Adhere the piece to the card, 5/8” from the top and 5/16” from the right.

  • Stamp the outline set of three hibiscus flowers on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Calypso Coral ink. Stamp the inside set of hibiscus flowers using Calypso Coral ink and the stamp off method. (Hint- stamp off means to ink up your stamp, stamp on a scrap piece of paper, then without re-inking your stamp, stamp your image.) Then, place the matching die over the stamped flowers and tape in place with removable tape.
  • With the die taped in place, and the Happy Hibiscus embossing folder opened with the logo on the left, place the piece upside down with the die snug in the appropriate groove. Tape it in place with removable tape to keep it from moving, close the right side of the folder, and run through your cut & emboss machine. (Hint- double-check to make sure the stamped flowers line up with the flowers on the folder before running through your machine.)
  • Stamp two large and two small detailed leaves on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Garden Green ink. Then, stamp the insides of them using Garden Green ink and the stamp off method.
  • Crop your leaves, two five-pointed leaves in Garden Green cardstock, and a label in Calypso Coral cardstock, using your cut & emboss machine.

Put it all together

  • Adhere the two large flowers (save the smaller one for another project) and the leaves together, then adhere them to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Stamp your sentiment on the label using Calypso Coral ink. Fold a 5” piece of Petal Pink Diagonal Trim in two. Adhere it to the back of the sentiment, and attach to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Attach three Faceted Gems as shown, and for a little glam, add some Wink of Stella to the center of the flowers.
