Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month, the theme is Summer Vacation. We hope to inspire you with our creations today! You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.
Nothing screams summer vacation to me like the ocean! The serene colors and calming waters are the ultimate relaxation, and just can’t be beat!
This card was inspired by that. It’s a diorama card made with the Seaside Wishes bundle. Although the sand dollars and starfish are fitting for my underwater piece, I decided to add more creatures from a couple of other sets.
The coral is from the Beauty of the Deep dies and the turtle is from the Sea Turtle stamp set.
I have made a diorama card before, so it was quite easy to duplicate. It was about 2 1/2 years ago and made with the Wildlife Wonder stamp set. You can find the original post here.
The two cards are very similar, but here is how I made this one.
To make the card (it’s a long one)
- Begin by cutting the thin white cardboard from one of the packages of your Stampin’ Up! DSP. You will need two pieces, each measuring 4 1/4″ x 7 1/2″. (hint – Cut the cardboard with the writing facing up. Make a cut at the 4 1/4″ mark and at the 7 3/4″ mark, then trim to equal 7 1/2″ each. This will ensure that you do not get any of the writing on your card.)
- Score both pieces of cardboard at 1/2″, 1″, 6 1/2″, and 7″ and burnish with your Bone Folder.
- Using the Countryside Corners dies, crop the following with your Cut & Emboss machine; one of the cardboard pieces with the largest die, and a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Country Woods DSP with the 2nd largest die.
- Adhere the Country Woods DSP to the outside of the cardboard you just cropped. Then adhere a 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ strip of Lost Lagoon cardstock to each of the side tabs.
- Add some Lost Lagoon ink and water to a 4 1/4″ x 5 7/16″ piece of Watercolor Paper using your Water Painter brush. Use your Heat Tool to move the ink around while drying it. Once dry, adhere it to the inside of your other cardboard piece.
Time to create the inside
- Tear a 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of white Glimmer Paper and color it with Crumb Cake ink and your Blending Brush. Adhere the piece to the inside of your window.
- Stamp some random dots on a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock using Mossy Meadow ink. Then, color a piece of Basic White cardstock with Mossy Meadow ink using your Blending Brush. Crop three pieces of seaweed from these pieces, with the Seaside Wishes dies.
- Stamp a starfish on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Cajun Craze ink. Crop the starfish, as well as a sea sponge in the Country Woods DSP, with the Seaside Wishes dies.
- Crop two pieces of coral in Calypso Coral cardstock with the Beauty of the Deep dies.
- Open your Seaside Wishes hybrid folder with the Stampin’ Up! logo on the left-hand side. Ink up the left side with Versamark ink, lay the die on it upside down (it should fit nicely in the outlined space), lay your 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of Basic Beige on top, close the right side on top of the left, and run through your Cut & Emboss machine. (Hint- adding the Versamark ink before embossing will give it more definition.)
- Using a Sponge Dauber and your Crumb Cake ink, ink up the sand dollars to give them a weathered look.
Adhere the elements to the card
- Adhere the large coral and the seaweed to the watercolor background. Then adhere the sea sponge to the back of the small sand dollar and attach it, the starfish, and the medium sand dollar on top with Dimensionals.
- Add a few drops of Cajun Craze, Azure Afternoon, and Pretty Peacock ink to a baby wipe to create your own ink pad. Ink up the baby turtle stamp with your homemade ink pad and stamp on a piece of Basic White cardstock. Cut the turtle out with your Paper Snips.
- Adhere the turtle to a 1/4″ x 3″ piece of Window Sheet. Then, adhere it to the back of the side tab and adhere the top and bottom side tabs together to form your diorama.
- Stamp your sentiment on a piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock using Pebbled Path ink.
- Crop the sentiment with the 2nd die from the Nested Essentials dies, with the sentiment up at the top. Next, lay the die back over the sentiment, and crop again to make a square.
- Adhere the sentiment to the bottom-left corner of the diorama and adhere the small coral on top.
- Attach three Flat Adhesive-Backed Pearls as shown.
There were a lot of different sets/tools used to make this diorama, but I just love it! The best part is, it will still fit in a regular envelope should I chose to mail it. That’s doubtful, but you never know.😉

Melissa – this diorama card is like looking into a little aquarium — so adorable!
Thank you so much Mary! That is exactly the look I was going for. Glad you liked it.❤️
Wow, wow, wow! Melissa, this is beautiful! I love the depth created by the fun fold and how you utilized other stamps to complete the scene. I like how you colored the glimmer paper since I have seen others use their blends. Thank you for joining the blog hop this month!
Thank you so much Debbie! The key to coloring that glimmer paper is to use a sticky-paper lint brush on your ink pad when you’re done.😉
This is awesome! I love the 3D effect and I especially love the watercolor background and the glimmer paper sand. You give great directions too!
Thank you Lisa, as you know, 3D can be a lot of fun!❤️
