Hello, welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month our Design Team’s theme is “Cute Critters” – showcasing their card/project with adorable animals, birds, or insects for any occasion. We hope you enjoy and will be inspired by them! Don’t forget to leave comments! We love hearing from you. At the end of my post, you will find the full line-up to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

For me, the “cute critters” that came to mind for this hop is the Zany Zebras. There are so many cute images in this stamp set, and since I couldn’t decide which one to use, I used all of them!
The waterfall card technique made it all possible. When you pull on the ribbon, you get to see all of the zebras when it flips.
As a bonus, I even incorporated a gift card holder on the inside.
Admittedly, this card would be better presented in a video, but for now written instruction will have to do.
To make the base of the card
- Begin with a 5 1/2″ x 10″ piece of Gray Granite card stock, score at 4 1/4″ and 8 1/2″ to form your card base.
- Punch the end of the card base (measuring 1 1/2″) with your 2″ Circle Punch to make a notch for your gift card. (Only punch about 1/3 of the circle)

- Stamp your sentiment on a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White card stock (being sure to stamp on the upper portion) using Tuxedo Memento black ink and adhere to the inside of the card using Stampin’ SEAL.
- Apply Tear & Tape to the side edges and corners of the 1 1/2″ side with the circle and adhere to the Basic White piece. (Be sure to leave enough open space for your gift card to slide in)

For the front of the card
- Adhere a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Coastal Cabana card stock to the front of the card using Stampin’ SEAL.
- Adhere a 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of Brights designer series paper (DSP) to the card using Stampin’ SEAL.
- Using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine, crop out the following using the Layering Squares dies: 4 pieces of Basic White card stock with the 3rd largest square, 4 pieces of Costal Cabana card stock with the 3rd largest scalloped square, and 4 pieces of Gray Granite card stock with the 2nd largest square.
Time to make the “cute critters”
- Make a mask of the birthday hat using a post it note. To make a mask, stamp the image on a post it note, being sure that a portion of the image is stamped where the sticky part is underneath, and cut out with your Paper Snips.
- Stamp the birthday hat on one of the Basic White squares using Tuxedo Memento black ink. Place the mask on the birthday hat and stamp the zebra over it using Tuxedo Memento black ink.
- Remove the mask and color the image using Bermuda Bay, Highland Heather, and Melon Mambo Stampin’ Blends.
- Stamp two more zebras on two of the Basic White squares using Tuxedo Memento black ink and color with the Bermuda Bay and Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends.
- Stamp your sentiment on the last remaining Basic White square using Tuxedo Memento black ink and stamp the stars around it in a random pattern using Coastal Cabana and Highland Heather ink.
- Layer and adhere the Basic White squares to the Coastal Cabana squares, then to the Gray Granite squares using Stampin’ SEAL.
To make the cute critters waterfall slider mechanism
- Cut a 2 5/8″ x 9 1/4″ piece of Gray Granite card stock and score at 2 5/8″, 3 1/8″, 3 5/8″, and 4 1/8″. Fold at the score lines to give them a good crease, then lay the piece flat.
- Punch the right-hand side of your strip with the Delightful Tag Topper punch as seen in the picture below. Snip off the extra pieces that didn’t fit in the punch with your Paper Snips.

- On a scrap piece of Gray Granite card stock, punch another Delightful Tag Topper piece and adhere to the one you punched on the Gray Granite strip. (this is just to reinforce the hole so that the ribbon does not rip it when it’s pulled on)
- Cut a 7/8″ x 6″ piece of Gray Granite card stock and score at 1 1/2″ and 4 1/4″ and apply strips of Tear & Tape between them.

- Attach the strip (with the Tear & Tape) to the underside of the larger Gray Granite strip.

- Flip your Gray Granite strip over and turn so that the punched tag end is facing the left. Apply Tear & Tape to the square on top of the small Gray Granite strip and in between all of the score lines.
- Adhere one of the layered zebra squares to the far right, lining up with the edge.

- Adhere the layered sentiment square with the Tear & Tape that is applied to your Gray Granite strip on top of the zebra image, slightly overlapping. Repeat the process with the remaining zebra images.

- Stamp the zebra and your sentiment on a 2 1/8″ x 3 7/8″ piece of Basic White card stock using Tuxedo Memento black ink. Color the zebra with Bermuda Bay and Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends.
- Flip the Gray Granite strip back over and turn, so that the punched tag end is back on the right-hand side.
- Adhere the zebra to a 2 5/8″ x 4″ piece of Coastal Cabana card stock and attach to the right-hand side of the Gray Granite strip.
- Cut two 6″ pieces of Gorgeous Grape ribbon and one 6″ piece of Playing with Patterns ribbon. Group them together, fold in half, and insert through the hole in the tag, and pull the ribbon through the hole. Trim the ribbon ends.
- Fold the left-hand side closed over the right and apply a small strip of Tear & Tape to the bottom small Gray Granite strip.

- Warp the small Gray Granite strips around the back and adhere closed with the small Tear & Tape strip. Apply more Tear & Tape to the small Gray Granite strip that you just turned into a band.
- Remove the paper from the Tear & Tape and adhere to the front of the card.
- Adhere five Rhinestone Basic Jewels and three white Resin Hearts as shown.
