Pals Blog Hop – One of My Favorite Things in Watercolor

One of my favorite things from this winter’s catalog is the Painted Christmas suite. It consists of two stamp sets; Christmas Season and Christmas to Remember. The Christmas Season set consists of winter foliage images and Christmas to Remember set consists of Holiday sayings.

A lot of cards can be made with the combination of these two sets. For my combination today, I decided to watercolor. It’s not something that I do very often, but this fool-proof way of doing it is pretty easy. The stamps did all the work and only required the use of a Stampin’ Spritzer!

To make the card

• Begin with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to form your card base.
• Stamp one of your acrylic blocks on to your Whisper White Craft ink pad. Squeeze a few drops of water out of your Water Painter on to the ink, swirl it around, and flick (lightly tap) some of the watered-down ink on to your card base in a random pattern. (Hint- be sure to place a paper towel or paper under your card base to protect your work surface.)

• Cut a 2 3/4″ x 4″ piece of Watercolor paper and prepare to flick ink on it as you did in the step above. Either place some Cherry Cobbler ink on an acrylic block or ink up the lid of your ink pad by squeezing the pad. Squeeze a few drops of water on it with your Water Painter, swirl it around, and flick some of the ink on to the piece. (Again, be sure to protect your work surface.)

• When the ink is dry, rough up the edges of the Watercolor paper. Holding on to the edge of the paper, run your Paper Snips down the edge (in small increments) to mar up the edge slightly.

• Give the piece a bend or two, to loosen it up and remove some of the stiffness, and attach it to the card base (off center to the left) using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Time to stamp

• Stamp your sentiment on a 5/8″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock using Versamark ink. Quickly dust the sentiment with white Embossing Powder, remove the excess, and set in place with your Heat Tool.
• Punch the ends of the sentiment with the Banners Pick a Punch.

• Adhere the sentiment to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. (Hint- add one Dimensional to the left and center and place two Dimensionals (stacked) to the right. This will make it even since you’re placing it on two different heights.)

• Stamp the following images on a piece of Watercolor paper, by first inking up the image then spraying it with water in a Stampin’ Spritzer: two sets of berries in Cherry Cobbler ink, two sets of berry stems in Soft Suede ink, two large skinny leaf bunches in Old Olive ink, two large leaf sprays in Garden Green ink, two evergreen branches in Evening Evergreen ink, and two large pinecones in Cinnamon Cider and Soft Suede ink.

• Crop all your images with the Seasonal Labels dies using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and adhere the berries to the stems with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
• Layer and adhere your stamped images together using Glue Dots.

• Apply some Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of your large, grouped image and adhere to the card.
• Attach three Classic Matte Dots (available 1/4/22) as shown.

• FOR AN ADDED TOUCH: Add a piece of Tidings of Christmas designer series paper (DSP) to the envelope flap. Glue a 2 1/2″ x 6″ piece to the outside of the envelope and trim off the excess with your Paper Snips.
